Double-Torq demos
Double-Torq demos
Posted by Gizmo on January 24, 2008 :

Part 1

In the last of the product demos shot by the skratchworx USA street squad, the guys got invited to view the demo of M-Audio's new version of Torq, now at v1.5. And while some of you are bellyaching at the nerve of M-Audio in charging a nominal fee for an upgrade, watch the videos and then see what's on offer is worth the upgrade, because for 50 bucks you get a whole lot of extra functionality.

The movie is in 2 parts (curse Youtube's 10 minute limit) and covers some of the new features such as tempo anchors (worth the money alone), the new zPlane Elastique Time Stretching algorithm as well as (I think) software only post fader effects (wow) and effects chaining.

Part 2

One of Torq's advantages is the much smaller system footprint to run effectively. But without actually trying it for myself, I suspect that to utilise all this new goodness might make your older processor groan. Holding the flag high for the old guard (yes I'm still running a G4 Powerbook), I'll be able to see just how much my Mac hurts after a v1.5 session.

Now after watching those demos, should anyone still moan about a $50 upgrade fee, you'll need to put forward one hell of a case to not come off as a cheap freeloading whiner, as to me $50 seems like a bargain for the new stuff you're getting.

$50 USD works out to be about 25 GBP. It'll be interesting to see how much the upgrade costs in the UK.

you know even though i absolutely LOVE scratch live, it really pisses me off that serato hasen't added major functionality into scratch live like the stuff that is in torq. I hate torqs interface but man its def got some incredible features. WHATS UP SERATO GET ON THE BUS GUS!

here are my 2bits

ive had torq for over a year i had 1.4 on my 2.g desktop and it ran great cept for a small amount of line noise

i just recently copped a 2.g laptop for performance
and it had vista installed

im still not a fan of vista but let me tell you

a. if you have vista there is no upgrade charge (1.6 too sons)

b. it runs amazing with vista seriously amazing not a single hiccup for the past 2/3 months (thats with a measly 512 ram too)
i can multi task to hell and back and still no probs

so vista users need not be upset about the upgrade

and its something for any perspective laptop buyers to consider

Rogan; that 'stuff' you seem to know enough about to want is the reason SSL is so stable, we dont need it. You cant possibly tell me after the recent 1.8 upgrade you have mastered everything that it does now, and want for more?

SSL does more than enough, they should concentrate on shit like being able to record 2 separate channels at the same time as play with the 57 before they bring any more shit out, I mean, I love the program, but with the recent announcements of ITCH, I'm starting to wonder how much of their resources are being spent fixing things that should have been available over 18 months ago.

Good look to the Torq guys with the new upgrade

This version upgrade seems like a dedication to the "Mashup" artist.... I can't wait to get my hands on it... Feature wise Torq is a mammoth product, what it may lack in a long tenure, and deep userbase of well known celebrity DJ's it more than makes up for with a good mix of remix features, effects, and (my personal favorite) a 16 cell sample pad to hollar your DJ Name to the crowd a hundred times a night so they know you "DJ BIG EGO" is up there on the 1's and 2's.

Torq's come a long way, and has a long way to go... Stay tuned and enjoy the ride... (and the videos) Thanks Scratchworx!

Iran torq on a Windows Media laptop without trouble. It is not "officially" supported by M audio.

On January 27, 2008, dj_spark said this:
They should have improved the sound quality in Torq, because the bass sound so weak and poor compared to other dvs system.
Even with a good quality soundcard the sound is still weak, so for me, the trouble is in the audio engine.

The user interface is wonderful (clear and easy), all the audio synched fx too, but what is more important for me is sound and stability, not a big stack of "I can do this... and that too !"

If you use Google videos, you get passed the 10 minute limit.

Are these features going to work with external mode or is it only going to work on internal mode. I would like to know if I can warp my tracks when using two turntables in external mode and will the key lock feature work in external mode. The video shows him using it with the Exponent. I rather use my turntables. Thanks

On February 5, 2008, fak3r said this:
I believe they work on external mode smile.gif
