Stanton SC System

Trade show tease time - Stanton look set to return to the DJ world with a big bloody bang this year with something huge. When I say huge, they've set up a teaser site so I guess they feel it's worthy of some speculation and hype. I have no idea what it is yet, but knowing the techy geek at Stanton, it's likely to be special.

I wouldn't go throwing empty phrases like "game changing" around just yet, but some healthy speculation and rumour mongering is all good - and it's what Stanton must want us to do by posting up a counter to the very first day of NAMM. So... guesses - educated or just plain outrageous and funny below please.

Please be new digital units like the iCDX or HDTT-5000!!! I love Stanton design and try to buy them as much as possible. Obviously it's something digital. Maybe their own DJ software (like Traktor) since they already have the time codes down.

I hope it's new units though.

Last year I was all hyped with the M-Audio teaser wich turned to be the not-so-hot X-Ponent so right now, I would not speculate for anything big. But it's true that Stanton must do something to get back in the game.

Gyro, I definitely agree. Stanton has fallen off the map sadly. Their design is amazing, but all their CD players use OEM technology. FinalScratch has lost ground in the time code market. To me, the most logical step to move back into the market is in the digital market.

I dont buy into hype if the thing is really nice then it will sell itself. The fact they use hype to introduce an product might suggest it's the next best thing or it's needs help selling.

The devs from deckadance have been talking about a new midi controller coming out. Talking about it like it's the bee's knees. But I don't think Stanton has a history with Image Line , and they aren't even geographically close... so the dd devs talking about a stanton gear release seems unlikely.

I'm hoping for a stanton CDX - full size vinyl cd deck that bares Stanton's name of reliability.

If Stanton released a quality MIDI controller, it might restore my faith in computer DJing, but I'd prefer it were something better. They can do so much better than a DJ controller.

From harmony-central.com

Stanton DJ is going to be making a major announcement about a new line of digital products at NAMM this year.
-------------------------------------------------------

So it will likely be more than just one product yay!

On January 11, 2008, nem0nic said this:
Sadly, the best parts of this device (in my opinion of course) will only really be showcased later in the year. That's not to say that there will be "hidden" stuff in this device, just that Stanton has done a good job of anticipating the needs of customers and devs going forward.

While it will debut at NAMM, expect more major announcements concerning it as the year progresses.

It's time for some change in the game (again). I only hope this is finally the real next step in the digital realm and that it's some sort of relatively cheap, spinning, motorized midi deck. Many of us already have a laptop, so why would we spend 1000$ on a Denon HD-5500, for 500$ on a CDJ-400 only for its midi functions? I think THIS is the next step in digital dj gear; leaving the turntable to turntablists, vinyl enthousiasts, old school djs and bring something new to the future lovers.

Nah, Im guessing a totally new series of all kinds of gear and in the center their final scratch 3 or something similar. If Im correct that mens a lot of cheap "old" Stanton stuff soon. :P

On January 11, 2008, Wil said this:
Giz, so not cool. :P

Anyway, like I said, digital gear is not unexpected. When they used the term "system", I figured it was a group of units that are supposed to work together. I just hope there's something like the iCDX or HDTT-5000. I love my HDTT-5000 but if Stanton made something, I'd seriously consider a switch.

It's a little computer in the size of a Playstation with integrated screen, hdd, software and sound interface. All you have to do is to hook up your timecode turntable or midi controller and your're ready to go. Price is around 900$

why not a DJ Controller?

YES - we have loads of them on the market, but they feel flimsy at best and yes that includes even the allmighty Xone 3D and Vestax's VCM and VCI lines...

trust me, quality wise there is NOT a single usable DJ controller out there, even the newly launched EVO5 has buttons that are more likely to be in kids toys than in 2000 USD plus mixers...

just a thought!

On January 13, 2008, Gizmo said this:
Listen up manufacturers - JohnDP needs a MIDI controller machined from a solid block of tungsten with diamond controls. Only then will he be happy. blink1.gif

{subject}
On January 13, 2008, Wil said this:
I can understand a MIDI controller but if Stanton's looking to break out from the pack, a MIDI controller isn't the thing to do that. They'd be going into an already crowded market. If they do make one, I agree with JohnDP, MAKE IT SOLID. No crappy plastic box that barely work at all (Total Control) and no gimmicky crap just to make it look good (XPonent).

If Stanton wants to break away, make something completely new or hell, make something BETTER than what everyone else has. For example: Make a unit with the digital features of a HDTT-5000 with a CD transport like a iCDX. BAM! Instant success. Why? Because there's NOTHING like it. In my eyes, a unit like that would destroy the CDJ-400 anyday but then again, I think the Cortex already does by itself.

I am in possession of a pic sent to me by a Stanton insider showing both of the prototypes CaveDwella mentioned. This is a shot of the units in testing, and is very secret. As you can see, not only is the control surface attractive, but it can be rolled up and put in your pocket at the end of a gig. It's also fully machine washable to remove that "club funk".

They've thought of everything!

It's about time someone put out a proper midi controller with a motorized platter! I'm definitely getting a pair of these, hopefully it won't be 10 months before they're available. I just hope it's compatible with Virtual Vinyl. And a ten inch platter too (not 12" like I would prefer but at least the unit is more compact and it is bigger than the Denon platters).
