Controller One - how many C notes?
Controller One - how many C notes?
Posted by Gizmo on June 12, 2007 :

Finally - I have official news on the state of play of the often seen, sometimes touched but never released Vestax Controller One - including the price.

Please bear in mind that this is for the UK only but the first Controller One units will hit retailers early July with a suggested retail price of 1279 inc VAT. You can apply the usual vague finger in the air style rules of international retailer pricing to work out a dollar/euro price as I have yet to get confirmation on that. As soon as I do, I will of course let you know.

Hatching plans right now to get some footage and words to you about the Controller One - because God knows we need something more than we've had so far. Dropping 13 c notes on a Controller One shouldn't be done without at least seeing how the creators imagined it being used.

For more info, check this Vestax page.

Didn't know that there was this much interest in the C1, so many people are ready to BUY it. But I bet more than half of these people don't know how to read music or play a traditional musical instrument.

Thus, this will make it harder to get C1s in the hands of real musicians with musical ability as this false demand rises and supplies are already uber limited. Some people are trying to get PAIRS like performing with two is mentally feasible. Each one is handcrafted in wood and made in Japan, don't expect to get one by its first launch.

Hi! i'm the spanish dj of the youtube C1 video (not italian)
Obviously my technique it not comparable with d-styles, ricci, excess and many more...they are my idols, when i had make this video, i dont want compared me with they! it would be so ridiculous.
Im had the C1 for a two days in my hands, and make this video to show you the best musician-turntable in the world,
with a simply and clear video, and this video its the best reference that you have up to now, no doubt.
Im waiting the official presentation from D-styles, will be amazing for sure.
I love the technical power of d-styles ricci and excess!
But i want one more thing....10000 guitar-players from around the world, can't play like Santana, Eric Clapton,
Mark knofler...like i can't play the c1 like d-styles, excess, but a lot among yourselves Neither.
peace!

I totally agree with you on this one Wakka, so many people will get one and then not have a clue what to do other than play simple notes. I myself can't read music at all i just use my ears and i have so many ideas of what i could do with this but there's no way i could afford that price tag!

also the statement above "sod the midi on it" WTF! come on you quite obviously have no idea what your talking about, and no idea of what having that capability will open up.

Hey Loomey.....soz if i caused offense with my first comment. It wasn't a dig at your skills shit I'd have probably been alot worse lol. And soz bout the italian thing.

And too Wakka etc...I get where you're coming from. However did you guys know any theory behind skratching when you first got TTs? I mean some people do but alot don't. Everyone has to learn these things at some point and why not learn it with the instrument that they'll ultimately use?

Sure look into music theory prior to buying one and don't think you'll be able to buy this it suddenly make lovely melodies at the touch of a button. But approach it with an awareness of what needs to be learnt in order to play it too it's full potential.

Peace.

Totally agree. I think a lot of people are looking at this like if it was a QFO,(a scratchers turntable). This is more than just a 'scratchers turntable'. The controller 1 is an actual turntable instrument. Buying one will not make you a musician, but how you use it. Busting out 5-click flares and turbo chirps won't fulfill the controller's potential. This is a turntable where musical knowlege will the uber factor in rocking it well.

I'll be sad if they all sell out to wack-ass dj with big spending pockets but no musical skills.

I don't think that will be the case. It's to dam expensive for one.

On June 14, 2007, MrDarth said this:
Yeah, it was kinda the same with the qfo, i dont think people will have to wait to get one, theres alot of pepole who want it, but cant afford it. And the people who buy it, and cant get it to work right would most likely sell it.

Sorry loomy, i dint meen to get of wrong, i just think it was sad not to see the full potential of the controller one, how ever, the video you posted, is great to see it work, but i cant wait to see what dstyles, woody or rucker makes.

seriously, these are hot. i can't wait to get a glimpse of one in action at the hands of a someone who "gets it". personally it's not a deck for me so i won't even front...but in the event that i ever do elevate to a point i could make use of a controller one, i hope they're still around.

if not, there's always eBay.

Interesting......anyone been lucky enough to see it in person that could comment on that point?? I remember you having a Vid of it in action Giz, did it strike you as something that may be a problem?

On June 15, 2007, Gizmo said this:
It's something I brought with Woody a couple of days ago. If you're using the key buttons around the platter as musical keys with only a little interaction with the fader than it won't matter. If you're scratching, either your thumb or your little finger can press the buttons.

alls im sayin is that it better last like a $1700 piece of equipment should last. they better not be puttin their reg vestax ;motors and stuffs in there.

im mean dont get me wrong i want one, but they should be built with the utmost quality. lasting 10 years or more.

I am very very confused by some of the comments here.

First thing i would like to say is... have any of you actually watched the video loomey made??? that was a very good introductory video giving a basic overview of what the function on the controller one are.

Secondly as a couple of heads have pointed out, i am going to be very intreagued to see what people are doing with these and what it is they think they will be able to do. 1300 hundred quid is a lot of loot to be the first person to scratch freshh and aahhh in your area on one of these.

i often wonder how old some of you people are when reading comments posted. Yeah i know its the internet and we all talk shit but dam... or perhaps im just getting old.

p.s. for those of you / us that cant affored the loot what do you think about the pdx-300??? it will function the same in a midi set up as far as i am aware. i cant really see vestax going to the trouble to put midi out and thru on these things at this stage.
