Monthly Archive

Below is a complete archive of all the news stories we've ever posted, broken down by month. Apologies for any missing pictures - the recent host change has seen a few images go walkabout. As I come across them, I'll find them and reinsert them. But I'm sure you'd rather I worked on the all new site than recover 7 year old images.

Aaaaand we're back in the room
Posted by Gizmo on February 26, 2011

Well hello there - nice to see you again. After the momentary blind panic of being imminently kicked out of 1and1 for being just too bloody popular, it seems that the skratchlounge and most importantly skratchworx have seemingly navigated the divide between hosts and are - touch wood - operating correctly in their new home.

Numark NS6 out in the wild
Posted by Gizmo on February 24, 2011

While I wait for stuff to happen with the site, I figured I'd post this little sessions that turned up on the Serato forum. With Numark's ITCH rocking NS6 being in a strictly light show but not functional condition at NAMM, seeing it in action in the above video will keep people very happy, as it looks to be much nearer the retailers shelves than you might think.

Moving - last one out turn off the light
Posted by Gizmo on February 23, 2011

As mentioned previously, skratchworx has got so stupidly popular that I need dedicated hosting or 1and1 will turf me out onto the digital superhighway without a home. This I have procured through the good people at Rackspace, and have been beavering away putting my house in order. The skratchlounge (yes we have a forum) has been moved and is considerably faster than before. And as of tonight, I'm flicking the switch on shifting skratchworx.

NEW: Pioneer DJM-900nexus
Posted by Gizmo on February 17, 2011

As far as teasers go, the last Pioneer video was less tease and more blindingly obvious to be honest. I'd more or less nailed the feature set, but now Pioneer have filled in the gaps and confirmed our wildest dreams. The DJM-900nexus is the effects laden Pro DJ Linked up Traktor certified mixer that you've been dreaming of. Well if you're a Pioneer DJM-800 owner that is.

UPDATE: Stanton SCS.1 - the Remix
Posted by Gizmo on February 14, 2011

Back at Winter NAMM 2008, Stanton signalled a change in direction - one that would put them firmly on the map as a trailblazer of new technology. This SC System was all about putting the very best of the latest technology into one coherent package and offering performance like no other. A full year later, it started shipping but sadly, that turned out to be correct, as a lack of software partners at launch and a pretty shaky underlying technology layer left the SCS.1m and 1d gathering dust on retailer's shelves. But things have changed, and the SCS.1 system has been retuned, recharged and relaunched.

REVIEW: V-Moda Crossfade headphones
Posted by Gizmo on February 14, 2011
v-moda crossfade DJ headphones

Up until recently, the DJ headphone market has been polarised. On one hand, DJs have had to deal with a steady and seemingly unending stream of aurally excellent yet aesthetically challenged headphones. At the other end of the scale is a myriad of shapes and colours which unfortunately sound like ass. But V-Moda decided to smash these disparate worlds into each other to create the Crossfade headphones - DJ spec cans without the blandness.

Next up - Nexus
Posted by Gizmo on February 11, 2011

Looks like Pioneer are in the teaser game again, but this time are a little less cryptic that before. Relaxed and rested, James Zabiela gives us an oh so carefully scripted and rehearsed demo of their new "Nexus" product, that gives us just enough to work with from a words and images point of view to almost nail what this is. Photoshop forensic frame by frame CSI action ahoy.

So popular that you broke skratchworx!
Posted by Gizmo on February 10, 2011

Recently, some have commented that skratchworx appears to be having some downtime. I've certainly noticed it a little as well. But why is this? Well it seems that this humble site has got so bloody popular that my 1&1 account simply cannot handle the strain anymore. So skratchworx is in the naughty corner - a probationary auxiliary sever, and have now been given the rather inconvenient task of sorting out a much more expensive dedicated server instead of bunking up with masses. This means that your skratchworx experience may be peppered with server errors for a short time.

NEW: Traktor Audio 2, 4 and 10 interfaces
Posted by Gizmo on February 10, 2011

If you had any sense, you'll have grabbed the 50% off deal and snagged yourself a super quality and super cheap audio interface from NI with Traktor thrown in before Christmas. If however, you correctly suspected that new hardware was coming, then you'll be happy to see that Native Instruments have indeed got an update coming, in the shape of the Traktor Audio 2, 6 and 10 interfaces.

NEW: Traktor 2 - the sequel
Posted by Gizmo on February 10, 2011

Finally the official news is in - Traktor Pro 2 has been officially announced (rather than leaked) and there's quite a lot to look at. That said, the Kontrol S4 version alluded to some of what we're seeing in the all new V2, but there's quite a bit more than what you see on the surface, and indeed what can be gleaned from a blurry teaser video.

Review: AIAIAI TMA-1 Headphones
Posted by Gizmo on February 8, 2011
AIAIAI tma-1 headphones review

There are products in the scene that are perceived as standards, to the point where when the question of which headphones to buy, 9 times out of 10, the response will be Sennheiser HD25. But then along came the AIAIAI TMA-1s, and the previously HD25 fanboys were stopped in the their tracks and suddenly having impure thoughts. I however have kept a level head, and not owning a pair of HD25s has allowed me to fondle the TMA-1s without guilty thoughts.

Offline to online - DMC battles in the Cloud
Posted by Gizmo on February 2, 2011

DMC is 28 today. Many of you were but a embryonic DJ sparkle in your parents' eyes when I was listening to the dulcet tones of the Royal Ruler Tony Price delivering the legendary Disco Mix Club from a boat in the North Sea via Radio Luxembourg. And while DMC have pioneered the battle genre for close to 2 decades, the format has remained much the same - but the technology has changed out of all recognition. Realising this, 2011 is the year that DMC embrace the future (well 5 years ago to be honest), pull down the barriers and take the battle to the world via the medium of the internet.
