Monthly Archive

Below is a complete archive of all the news stories we've ever posted, broken down by month. Apologies for any missing pictures - the recent host change has seen a few images go walkabout. As I come across them, I'll find them and reinsert them. But I'm sure you'd rather I worked on the all new site than recover 7 year old images.

DJ Disk does DJs For Life
Posted by Gizmo on November 27, 2005
As if it wasn't good enough to get such scratch VIPs as D-Styles, Jazzy Jay, Grand Wizard Theodore, Steve Dee, Rob Swift plus many more I'm too tired to mention, DJs For Life have now secured the services of former ISP and scratch legend that is DJ Disk.

DMC World DVDs ready to pre-order
Posted by Gizmo on November 23, 2005
So people - this is the end of an era. As of next year, the competition will be a whole different ball game with any gear being allowed and the mandatory usage of Ortofon cartridges being in effect. So grab these DVDs while you - the last of their kind. And you can buy pre-order them from The Skratchshop as well.

Cut like D-Styles... hopefully.
Posted by Gizmo on November 19, 2005

It's all well and good scratching along to the DIY DVD and have a great DJ pass on some quality advice, but wouldn't it be even better to spend some quality time with one of the world's greatest DJs showing you how to scratch all up close and personal? Well DJs For Life and sw_smilie.png are giving you the chance to do just that...

REVIEW: Ecler HAK 310
Posted by Gizmo on November 12, 2005
It's nice sometimes to get a demo unit that is plain and simple - no fuss, bells, whistles or anything too complicated. But for some reason, it turned out to be a real pain to write this review. Because the Ecler HAK 310 is so straightforward and free from extras, writing something exciting and witty was pretty difficult but I think I've done it.

REVIEW: Denon DN-S1000
Posted by Gizmo on November 12, 2005
We've had a small gap in the Denon review lineup for a little while now. The diminutive DN-S1000 CD deck came out well over a year ago but because it isn't a straight out scratch deck, we kind of passed over it. But now the small but perfectly formed deck has received the sceptical Deft review eye - and has come out the other side pretty much intact. Apart from the slightly dodgy button that was broken when we got it honest Mr Atkinson...

Silk Kuts can HAK it (so sorry for that)
Posted by Gizmo on November 12, 2005

With DMC lifting the gear restriction, you're very likely to see many more posts like this as manufacturers jostle for top battle position. So without further ado, congrats to Silk Kuts for lifting the UK ITF crown using Ecler's HAK 360 mixer. And there's a little story as well...

More answers from Tony Prince
Posted by Gizmo on November 8, 2005
Things are clearly happening at DMC HQ, but perhaps a little too quickly for the royal ruler himself Tony Prince. What started life as an internal memo, in true classic style got leaked and thus became a major scandal and talking - if not shouting - point for some. After a few days of confusion, DMC issued a statement to clarify the news that Ortofon would become the stylus of choice and that any gear could be used. There were still a few hole so I fired of a few questions that thankfully Tony answered to maybe clear the mists a little more.

Leakage - DMC and Ortofon
Posted by Gizmo on November 6, 2005
This news hit the forums on Friday morning and has caused a serious stir in the online community at least. Leaked from places unknown, it seems that DMC and Ortofon will be further cementing their sponsorship bond by making Ortofon carts mandatory for all competitors. Wait... there's more...

UPDATE: Response from DMC enclosed...

Rat vs Squirrel on wax
Posted by Gizmo on November 6, 2005
Coming from the same house as the Freq Factory portable scratch unit, DJ Ruggedry and DJ Rundown bring you Rat vs Squirrel battle wax - and it's just a little leftfield from the norm. Seeing as these guys came up with the Freq Factory, I wouldn't expect anything less.

Lamont's Hi-fi Vol 2
Posted by Gizmo on November 6, 2005
DJ Lamont is no stranger to the battle wax scene. He and his Realtablist colleagues have been making quality wax for some time now like the Unknown Break project and DJs From Earth. And now Lamont has brought out a sequel to his Hi-fi Volume 1 - called unsurprisingly Hi-fi Volume 2. And a corker it is as well.

I cleaned up the spillage
Posted by Gizmo on November 6, 2005
A quick note - I've had a quick tidy up in the 08 and Controller1 news comments. It all got a little out of hand, off topic and not the kind of thing I or anyone else wants to see in sw_smilie.png .

I'm sorry if you don't like being edited or even deleted. If this is the case, remember to follow the house rules in future and keep it on-point and constructive.

Remember - all IPs are logged and I check for aliases as well - so lay off the double and treble posts with different names. mad.gif

I see iKey
Posted by Gizmo on November 3, 2005
Well looky what landed on my doorstep today. 7 months after I first mentioned it at MusikMesse, Gemini's pocket USB recording device the iKey is now a reality. And first impressions are good. I'll be having a good play over the weekend and will report back.
