Monthly Archive

Below is a complete archive of all the news stories we've ever posted, broken down by month. Apologies for any missing pictures - the recent host change has seen a few images go walkabout. As I come across them, I'll find them and reinsert them. But I'm sure you'd rather I worked on the all new site than recover 7 year old images.

Pioneer don't announce CD or mixer shocker!
Posted by Gizmo on October 26, 2005
Pioneer, a company known for bringing out pretty amazing lumps of DJ hardware have - just for a change - not announced any hardware at all. Instead, they've decided that software is the new hardware and written a digital version of a small CD setup and called it DJS. It'd better have good pitch or Deft will be most displeased.

Buy tickets for DJs for Life
Posted by Gizmo on October 24, 2005

Tickets are now available for possibly the greatest scratch DJ event ever held in the UK - DJs for Life. But I would say that seeing as I'm chairing 2 sessions over the 2 day event, but despite this low point, I'm sure it'll be amazing.

There's nothing more to say that get your tickets from the DJs for Life ticket page.

Vestax Fresh Update - PMC-08Pro
Posted by Gizmo on October 22, 2005
Now this is more like it - a serious lump of metal for the serious scratch heads.

The Rane 56 is the acknowledged daddy of the mixer scene but we must all show the 07 it's proper respect for being the blueprint for today's large crop of wannabe scratch mixers. It's a tough act to follow but Vestax swallowed a bottle full of bravery pills and released the 007. Oh dear - the less said about that the better. But here it is people - a truly worthy successor to the 07 - one that (on paper at least) looks like it might well become a real winner for Vestax. I might just forgive them for the 007 if it does.

Vestax Fresh Update - Controller1
Posted by Gizmo on October 22, 2005
Just when you think vinyl is on life support and has a DNR signed by all the manufacturers, Vestax storm through the doors and resuscitate it for one last spin. Nothing has caused quite a stir like the Controller1. Previously known as the Melody, this lump of shiny Japanese loveliness has got the attention of all the technology sites and you might as well join in the fun as well.

Vestax Fresh Update - CF-CC
Posted by Gizmo on October 21, 2005
Crossfaders are like London buses - you wait for one and then 3 come round the corner all at once. Hot on the heels of the Pro X Fade and the Infinium is Vestax's overhaul of their existing fader technology. Now it's got like wheels and everything.

Vestax Fresh Update - CDR-07
Posted by Gizmo on October 21, 2005
Stiffles yawn... OK people - if you're regular visitors to these pages, this may be old news to you (especially if you caught the pre-NAMM faux pas some 9 months ago unsure.gif ) but it seems like it's reeeeeaaaally hot news elsewhere on the technology pages on the net. So pulling myself from my sickbed, I guess I'd better get up to date. What follows is an entertaining translation of the latest info posted on the Japanese Vestax site. First up - the new recording CDR-07.

M-Audio's posh iKey
Posted by Gizmo on October 14, 2005
I'm all for anything that means I don't have to lug my laptop around to record audio which is why I'm rather partial to Gemini's iKey. And I'm a sucker for small electronic gadgets as well. So what we have here is the iKey on steroids - I give you M-Audio's MicroTrack 24/96 mobile digital recorder.

Battle Mentality - a first view
Posted by Gizmo on October 12, 2005

If releasing a new LP wasn't enough (Table Manners - available in vinyl and CD), Noisy Stylus are providing the soundtrack to an animated short movie - called Battle Mentality. It's the story of 2 robots fighting to the death. Nice. Check it out on the LeBeat site.

Your last chance to help DJ Swing
Posted by Gizmo on October 12, 2005
I've been asked to post this vitally important message about DJ Swing. For those of you who don't know, DJ Swing has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in January 2003. He relapsed in April 2004 and so is currently receiving further treatment. He has been told that he now urgently needs a bone marrow transplant.

There is almost no time left to help. Please read the whole story and if you can help, or know someone who can, please pass this on.

More outside the box thinking...
Posted by Gizmo on October 6, 2005
Now we all ooohed and aaahhed when we saw the QFO - portable scratching had arrived - assuming you were happy lugging several car batteries or a solar panel around. Now The Scratchophone allows for truly portable scratching sans power supply.

DJs For Life Conference
Posted by Gizmo on October 6, 2005

Being based in the UK, we often miss out out some serious turntablist action. Sure - people tour, we get the world DMC finals but usually it's the occasional chance to see our favourite stars. Until now that is. Bring on the "DJs For Life" conference - and a stellar DJ list - and somehow me and Laurent got persuaded to do it as well. But it's also for a very good cause.
